Fullscreen on Mobile App Youtube?

Is it possible to view the video in the iOS app in landscape (or is it in the works)? I'm envisioning a landscape view where the video is fullscreen, and you can tap on the subtitles to open the dictionary. Having the video only take up ~1/4 of the screen is not ideal.

When I press full screen, it says the browser does not support it.

Landscape mobile is a tricky situation, and we don't currently have concrete plans for smartphones There's simply not enough vertical room for target subs, secondary subs, playback controls, and a dictionary In its current form We may explore this modality more in future, but for now it's not a priority FYI @Parzival Böhme this is because mobile YouTube actively prevents/removes this feature of tablet sized breakpoints. To discourage browser support, and funnel people to the app Why they do this for tablets and not smartphones, is unknown. But likely calculated In any case, I have an issue in the backlog to explore tablet fullscreen possibilities in the future

I can enter full screen on my mobile browser. I mostly use YT as a podcast so this is not biggest issue in the world.

Yep I can fullscreen on my iPhone, but not my iPad I suppose we should just be grateful that YouTube doesnt restrict mobile traffic like other streaming services do 🥲

I meant my iPad. It worked fine on Safari and Brave for me. Maybe it varies between models?

I made a quick proof of concept in Android. I did some things like pause when hovering with a stylus, and showing a popup definition when hovering with stylus. I didn't implement complex parsing or anything. I really don't think the UI would be too crammed here.

Impressive! It is certainly possible, but it would be a future enhancement 👍 Naturally landscape viewing is by far the most comfortable way to watch videos
