Does anyone use Plex with Migaku?
I have a lot of japanese physical media that I use plex to watch. The browser extension works sometimes but I think direct support of this site would open up a lot of new doors! Since moving to Japan, I often go to book/DVD stores to find old anime, and then download them into a personal server that allows me to watch my physical movies/tv on the go! They even let you search for subtitles for most media!

Plex support would be an absolute game changer!

Plex support would be incredibly valuable to me as well, enough to push me towards a lifetime subscription I think
harsh-harlequin•5mo ago
Maybe if enough people show interest here then it could be prioritized higher. Plex is the single best way for me to watch any anime or show since I can get any show on it easily.

I agree!
Easy lifetime sub for me as well

Plex or jellyfin🙏🏻
foreign-sapphire•5mo ago
Yes this gets my vote as well
optimistic-gold•5mo ago
What benefits would plex support have over the player?
harsh-harlequin•5mo ago
For me, my friend hosts a plex server so I don’t have to worry about getting the anime myself, he does it for me
environmental-rose•5mo ago
Yeah I host all my content on a dedicated server in my house. Even though it's in my household, it would still be painful to access and use with a local video player requiring me to transfer every file individually each time I want to watch something.
rising-crimson•5mo ago
I'd be down! I miss the legacy player a lot, it's the only reason I even have anki. If support for this came with a quality player, seems great.
automatic-azure•5mo ago
I want either Plex support or the local player.
The ability to mine from content not available on Netflix would be great. I tried to set up something similar with MPV player but man does that method suck. It's 5 times the work for worse cards.
(Luckily the player is planned for Q1 of this year)
continuing-cyan•5mo ago
It's like Netflix for local files, it's just awesome.
rising-crimson•5mo ago
I didn't know when it was planned. So stoked to hear its coming soon

After trialing Migaku and realising that Plex doesn't work I didn't start a subscription. This is the only feature I need. I'm curious about this though: "The browser extension works sometimes" @Lenorris. Did you manage to pin point why it would work sometimes and not others ?
stormy-gold•5mo ago
yeah plex or jellyfin support
quickest-silver•5mo ago
Would also subscribe if it would work with Plex but from what I have read here it sadly doesn't
like-gold•5mo ago
I also need this feature, I really enjoy watching my collection of old movies and anime on Plex.

I'd have to mess with it some more, but after downloading japanese subtitles for a movie to watch, it worked the first time when hovering over the words. After trying the same process with a different movie it didn't work. Maybe it could be the format of the subtitles?
harsh-harlequin•5mo ago
26 upvotes, seems like people really want Plex support 😁
stormy-gold•5mo ago
it would be a game changer
equal-aqua•5mo ago
Yeah, I am on that train with you. Plex support would be a game changer!
correct-apricot•5mo ago
Is it really? Where can see the info?
automatic-azure•5mo ago
Some developer mentioned this in a suggestion thread.
The player is already in the #🛣roadmap though
ah here it is

Plex Support might even be better than a local player, ngl
rival-black•5mo ago
Maybe for your use case. But local player is a better business move in terms of being more accessible and getting new users
correct-apricot•5mo ago
Yes, but Plex support seems like a an easier endeavor. It's basically just another website with videos
rival-black•5mo ago
this isnt necessarily true when you factor in mobile support and the need to rip audio for subtitle gen
correct-apricot•5mo ago
What's subtitle gen though? Is it accessible right now somehow?
rival-black•5mo ago
"Migaku magic." Its available on the mobile youtube player and on youtube for the early access version of the extension
It uses whisper to generate subtitles for any video
correct-apricot•5mo ago
I tried whisper once to generate subs for some TV show and it wasn't the best. I couled easily do without it in Plex
fascinating-indigo•5mo ago
A local player with mobile support would seem harder imo. And if you have local files it’s a lot easier to find subs for Plex or just generate your own.
And, if someone has files for a local player, there’s a slim chance they don’t know what Plex is lol. I’ve never met someone who has local content that just watches it in VLC or something lol
rival-black•5mo ago
People are going to be able to download the migaku app on their mobile devices, download an episode of whatever show they want, and immediately start waching it with minable subtitles. That is way more accessible than plex support
(Which, for the record, I think would be awesome. But I want migaku to succeed as a business first so it can continue to do awesome things.)
correct-apricot•5mo ago
Plex is mostly used with network storages, which is a geeky thing. Viewing local files with local player on a PC is much more common I think.
rival-black•5mo ago
Its super geeky! Literally everyone I know irl who downloads content watches it locally
fascinating-indigo•5mo ago
I mean if that worked that would be awesome, I have been under the impression that a local player would be PC only.
rival-black•5mo ago
It’s been confirmed for mobile as well
equal-aqua•5mo ago
I wonder if the local player integration will work with Plex in some way. As with Mac, I use Infuse, and I doubt you can get subtitle information from it. On Linux desktop, I use the Plex web app, as the MPV shim no longer works (at least for me on Arch with Brave as a browser :/, I could be doing something wrong, though, as I generally use VLC for local media and not MPV).
foreign-sapphire•5mo ago
The thing about plex being geeky is real. I've tried to get many of my normie family members to use my plex but they'd rather pay $100/month in various streaming apps
equal-aqua•4mo ago
Funny, all my family members said it is more user friendly then the paid options
Although to be fair all I gave them is plex and overserr access
They also love the skip intro/credits features
also the fact that you can share your plexpass with so many people, no ip restrictions and all is insane.
and for overserr I use SSO via plex, so it is not like they have to remember a lot of the credentials
fascinating-indigo•4mo ago
What ;-;
That’s just plexist cause my grandparents could figure it out
harsh-harlequin•4mo ago
Log in on their tv once and they’re good lol
fascinating-indigo•4mo ago
Heavy plex user. Have tons of own content. Plex support should be a must!
Watch streamed plex content and channels, watch own content; local and network stored, watch shared content fam/friends, subtitles galore to integrate migaku with for learning...
rival-black•4mo ago
Does plex stream in browser?
Can anyone confirm if LLPlayer can run the videos with the yt-dlp plugin?

continuing-cyan•4mo ago
Yes, Plex has a web version
I will try when I get home, unless someone else try first
harsh-harlequin•4mo ago
Please do, that'd be awesome.
continuing-cyan•4mo ago
yes llplayer works for youtube video.
no, ofc it doesn't work with plex streams
rival-black•4mo ago
Im guessing because they’re private (right? I dont use plex)
It works for pixeldrain links
equal-aqua•4mo ago
Plex does not generate links
It would have to integrate with it's API to get content
fascinating-indigo•4mo ago
Plex works across almost every platform eg Plex app on PC/OSX/Linux, Gaming Consoles, Android/iOS phones, AndroidTV/AppleTV/RokuTV/Fire TV, Samsung/LG/ smart tv, web browser
optimistic-gold•6d ago
Plex has always been like this lol. It's still the best one to use though if you have a Plex pass. Just get the pass on sale for $50 and then block all the telemetary. Too easy. Did you use ChatGPT to generate this btw :D?
plex-shim-mpv and jellyfin-shim-mpv + migaku mpv script are the solution for using migaku with plex/jellyfin
not perfect but works
