Hi 🙂 This is how I set this up.
In 'Registered Fields' I added my decks that I want to be scanned for kanji I don't know yet. The first 2 are defaults (I think there were there when I installed?) and I added 3rd and 4th on the list. You can add as many as you like, as the kanji cards won't be added immediately (yet). Make sure to check the note type for your decks, and what's the name of the field that includes kanji you want to learn. Think of Registered Fields as an instruction for the add-on which fields will be scanned for unknown kanji.
Then, moving to Recognition and Production cards. Their purpose is to select which decks (that are defined in the Registered Fields tab!) will be scanned to create kanji cards. Note that in these tabs you only pick a deck name, and there is no need to pick a type of field to scan. It's all in the 'Registered Fields'.
I wanted to focus on learning kanji from "Kanji in Context: Revised Edition" deck first, so I added it here. The learn-ahead card count is set to 15, and that's a limit of cards that will be scanned for unknown kanij (until you learn them). The kanji deck will keep growing gradually by itself.
Same setup in 'Production' tab (with the exception "Deck for new cards" of course, as I have one for Production and another one for Recognition).
