Does Migaku support English > Chinese as well as Chinese > English cards?
I think English > Chinese will help with writing and speaking. Is that possible with Migaku? Not only for my personal cards, but also the Mandarin Course would be useful

english -> chinese will help with exactly nothing, dont do that

oh really? it wont significantly help me remember how to write and speak the word?

Nope
Technically yes it will help your active recall, but it’s not worth the extra effort. I’d just practice writing and speaking to get better at output

thank you

I have the same question as the original poster. Is there a way to do it in Migaku? (I'd also love to read any research that would back the claim that it's not worth the effort.)
In Migaku no, but you could in Anki

Thanks! (I've been using Anki for a long time, and I'm just trying out Migaku.)

It’s not that it doesn’t help recall words, it’s that it can cause you to recall words that in different contexts and situations are not appropriate, because 1:1 translations only really work for very simple nouns like „cat“ or „hairbrush“. Not so well for things like verbs and adjectives or more abstract nouns. So other exercises for output are usually recommended

Sure. It doesn't work just for any word and better to do cloze-style and/or add some disambiguation. Also for things like specialized terminology, the simple reversal often works perfectly.

Yeah, totally. It can be done, but often the effort it takes to add good disambiguation, especially if you're a learner and make the cards yourself, is just not worth it over other exercises
