Is there anything we can do to troubleshoot whenever we get a :( Failed to generate subtitles error
Is there anything I can do when this error comes up or is the only thing I can do is wait until it randomly works again?

Wasn’t sure if there was anything on my end to do since I just updated my laptop and thought maybe that was related lol

@mitsu @beetheleaf @Noah 🇩🇪 (43k) we're still researching ways to improve subtilte generation stability on desktop. There are many factors that can affect it, e.g:
- Your machine/account might have gotten a temporary ban from Youtube (often lifted after a few days)
- Some videos just don't work well with our current setup
- Youtube might have rolled out an update
All of these factors involve some amount of randomness and are hard to detect, especially Youtube updates, which are often delivered through A/B testing, meaning they are applied to only a subset of users at any given time. That's why subtitle generation might randomly fail for certain users/machines. There's not much you can do on your end unfortunately, but there are a few things you can try, though they're not guaranteed to help:
- Use a VPN (but you might get banned quickly, if that happens try switching to a different server)
- Log out of your Youtube account, or try a different one
We have a few ideas in mind to improve the current situation, and this is one of our top priorities right now. That said, we're still in the research phase, so I can't give a release date just yet 🥲 I'll post an update here once something is ready
