If that is the case

If that is the case

If that is the case

The conjunction それなら can be seen as a combination of それ that followed by the auxiliary なら if.
Building on the previous information, それなら is mostly used in responses to statements made by others. In response to a statement A, it conveys the meaning of If that is the situation, then B or If that is the case then B. The speaker uses it to indicate that they will take action if the previously stated condition A is fulfilled.

A: The train already left.
B: In that case, let’s take the next bus.

A: I’m not good with spicy food.
B: Then how about this dish instead?

A: I might be busy tomorrow.
B: In that case, let’s reschedule for the day after tomorrow.

In contrast to simply using なら, the condition in それなら is established by what has been previously stated by the other speaker.
