Listening as a language learning strategy: Pluses and minuses [The Migaku Bible: Method]
At Migaku, we believe languages are learned by being interacted with: by consuming content in them. This video discusses how listening to (and watching) media can be a powerful tool for language learners, exploring the benefits it offers and the hurdles it presents. We cover: The different types of listening you might do, such as pure listening and hybrid input Some things you can do to make listening to things in your target language easier The unique benefits of listening/watching as opposed to reading The challenges of listening/watching and how to overcome them Listening refers to the act of hearing a language being spoken and understanding messages within that speech. The key to listening is to go into it with the intent to understand the messages your content contains. With that in mind, we also introduce some tools Migaku provides to help you make consuming audio content easier, such as generating subtitles for YouTube videos and enabling you to click on words in those subtitles to see what they mean.
