「くん」Refer to people

Suffix for people with lower rank than the speaker

くん​ is one of those words you may have already picked up through years of consuming copious amounts of anime. If not, let's briefly go over it.

君(くん) can be added to a person's first or last name, but only if the person is of a lower rank than the speaker. For example, it wouldn't be appropriate to use it for your teacher if you're a student.

While it is most commonly used to refer to men, it can also be used for women.

Special Note

When used after a name, it can be written in kanji form, or in hiragana.

Formation
